NUCLEAR. A few steps from the future. Two of your home.
DECALOGO ANTINUCLEARE
1. Nuclear power is very dangerous
The tragedy of Chernobyl has demonstrated the danger of this source of energy. The incident has caused, and
still in the future will cause hundreds of thousands of victims and still at 23 years after the research
scientific impact still show both flora and fauna. Growing evidence of childhood leukemia
in areas near nuclear power stations.
2. Nuclear power is the dirtiest source of energy
Nuclear power plants generate radioactive waste. The waste remains radioactive lifetime average of 200 to 300
years, long-lived wastes billions of years and there is still no system for the safe management
waste in the long run.
3. Nuclear power is the energy source that generates fewer jobs
European targets for renewables and energy efficiency in 2020 are worth three times the nuclear plan
Enel in terms of energy and would create at least 200 000 new jobs in "green" and therefore 10-15 times
employment induced by nuclear power.
4. Nuclear power is too expensive
According to the U.S. Department of Energy an EPR coast in € 7.5 billion, a figure far greater than
as touted by Enel and the government (4.5 billion). Then if we take into account the disposal of radioactive
and decommissioning and decontamination of nuclear facilities, the costs for us and future generations will
even higher.
5. Nuclear power is not necessary
By 2020, renewables, along with energy efficiency measures, are able to produce nearly
150 billion kWh, about three times the goal of Enel's nuclear, drastically cutting emissions
CO2.
6. Nuclear power is a false solution to climate
Nuclear power is a choice not useful for climate, since the plants will be ready and certainly after 2020
but now we need to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. Diverts resources to invest in nuclear energy sources really
clean, energy efficiency and renewable energy.
7. Nuclear power does not generate energy independence
If nuclear power were to return to Italy, we will continue to import oil for transport and become
dependence on foreign uranium and technology, as the new EPR reactor is a French patent.
And, anyway, the leader of France's nuclear capita consumption of oil more than the Italians.
8. Nuclear power is a limited resource
Uranium is a scarce resource is intended to be exhausted in a few decades. In the case were to be built
new power plants, the depletion of uranium resources will accelerate.
9. Nuclear power does not have the support of citizens
The Italians have said no to nuclear power with an important choice referendum. Today, opinion polls
reveal that the majority of citizens do not want a nuclear plant in their own regions.
10. Nuclear power: the more distant and less risk
Some argue that the nuclear risk is there, being surrounded by Italy reactors. It is a statement
Incorrect: Although it is never zero, the risk for the consequences of an accident decreases the greater the
distance from the center. The Alps, as seen in the case of Chernobyl, is a partial natural barrier for
Italy.
